Market coverage: XAUUSD / Gold Date: November 2, 2026 Edition: Before the US ISM Manufacturing release Research cutoff: 13:34 UTC / 7:04 p.m. IST
Gold’s Monday recovery faces an immediate test from US manufacturing data. This gold price today update examines the rebound, the interest-rate backdrop and the conditions that would make a recovery more convincing.
The focus is on whether buying survives the next data release and subsequent retest. A positive session alone would not establish that the recent correction has ended.
Gold price snapshot
Reuters reported the following observation on November 2:
| Instrument | Price | Reported daily change | Quote time |
|---|---|---|---|
| Spot gold, XAU/USD | $3,902.03 per troy ounce | +0.7% | 12:39 UTC / 6:09 p.m. IST |

Why gold is recovering today
Reuters reported an oil decline of more than 4% as diplomatic hopes involving Iran encouraged expectations of fewer Middle East supply disruptions.
Pratik Algo analysis: Lower energy costs can reduce one source of inflation pressure. If markets consequently expect less monetary tightening, gold can benefit through the interest-rate channel.
That relationship is conditional. Falling inflation expectations do not necessarily reduce inflation-adjusted yields: the outcome also depends on how nominal bond yields move. Gold may receive less support if nominal yields remain firm while expected inflation falls.
Diplomatic progress can also reduce defensive demand. The net effect therefore depends on which influence dominates—changing policy expectations, the dollar, or demand for protection against geopolitical risk.
A durable improvement would require more than one favourable oil headline.
The Fed and inflation still limit the recovery case
The Federal Reserve kept its policy-rate range at 3.75%–4.00% on October 28. Two officials preferred a quarter-point increase, while the policy statement continued to describe inflation as elevated.
The latest September PCE release, published by the Bureau of Economic Analysis on October 29, showed:
| Inflation measure | Monthly change | Annual change |
|---|---|---|
| Headline PCE | +0.5% | +3.6% |
| Core PCE, excluding food and energy | +0.3% | +3.1% |
These are already-published results, not today’s forecasts.
Our interpretation: A softer energy backdrop may help, but the Fed still needs evidence that broader price pressure is easing. Gold’s recovery would have a stronger foundation if incoming activity and wage data reduced the case for further tightening.
Conversely, resilient demand combined with persistent cost pressure could keep policy expectations restrictive. Gold pays no interest, making real yields an important part of that assessment.
Neither the October decision nor one new survey guarantees the next Fed move.
Today’s main event: US ISM Manufacturing PMI
The October ISM Manufacturing report is scheduled for 15:00 UTC / 8:30 p.m. IST on November 2.
At the research cutoff, Trading Economics displayed:
| Measure | Previous | Consensus | Actual |
|---|---|---|---|
| ISM Manufacturing PMI | 54.5 | 54.6 | Pending |
| ISM Manufacturing Prices | 77.9 | 77.0 | Pending |
The same calendar separately listed a model forecast of 54.7 for the headline PMI. That is different from its consensus column; the figures should not be presented as one interchangeable forecast.
A manufacturing PMI above 50 generally indicates expansion in the sector. For the market reaction, however, the distance from expectations and the report’s components can matter more than the threshold alone.
How different results could affect gold
- Stronger activity with persistent price pressure: Could support the dollar and restrictive rate expectations, making gold’s rebound harder to sustain.
- Softer activity with easing prices: Could reduce tightening expectations and improve the backdrop for gold.
- Mixed figures: A strong headline with weaker employment or lower prices can produce an uneven reaction, including an initial move that reverses.
These are possible transmission channels, not mechanical trading rules. Read employment and new orders alongside prices, then check how yields and the dollar actually respond.
At this article’s cutoff, the release had not occurred. No actual result or post-release reaction is claimed here.
XAUUSD technical reference levels
ATFX’s November 2 analysis identifies the following intraday references. The round-number levels are added for context; the interpretations are Pratik Algo analysis.
| Reference area | Basis | What to observe |
|---|---|---|
| Around $3,880 | ATFX’s nearby downside reference | Whether a break persists or buyers reclaim the area |
| $3,858 and $3,840 | Lower supports marked by ATFX | Whether selling slows if the recovery fails |
| $3,900 | Psychological round number | Whether price can establish acceptance above it |
| $3,915–$3,938 | ATFX recovery checkpoints | Whether higher levels hold after a pullback |
| $3,955–$3,973 | ATFX resistance area | Whether a rebound attracts renewed selling |
| $4,000 | Broader psychological threshold | A later test if the recovery develops |
These are published analytical references, not independently measured live order-book liquidity or guaranteed turning points. They can become less useful after a large data surprise.
A practical distinction is whether price merely touches a level or remains beyond it. Completed candles and the subsequent retest help distinguish a temporary sweep from a more durable change in structure.
Intraday scenarios for the US session
Recovery extends: Gold holds its developing base and retains gains through the manufacturing release. Support from softer yields or a weaker dollar would strengthen this interpretation. A breakout that immediately falls back into the prior range would weaken it.
Recovery fades: The data or broader market reaction restores upward pressure on yields and the dollar. If rebounds then form lower highs and nearby support gives way, the recent downward pressure could return. A sustained reclaim of the broken area would challenge that scenario.
Range trading continues: Mixed data leaves neither side in control. Repeated rejection at both ends of a range would favour patience until a completed-candle break holds.
The first reaction is not always the lasting one. Spread widening, slippage and rapid reversals can make the opening seconds after a release difficult to interpret.
What matters beyond today’s ISM release?
| Date | Event | UTC | IST |
|---|---|---|---|
| November 3 | September JOLTS job openings | 15:00 | 8:30 p.m. |
| November 3 | US midterm elections | Results develop over time | Follow overnight updates |
| November 4 | ISM Services PMI | 15:00 | 8:30 p.m. |
| November 6 | October payrolls, unemployment and wages | 13:30 | 7:00 p.m. |
The ISM and Bureau of Labor Statistics schedules underpin the timed releases. Times reflect US Eastern Standard Time; confirm the schedule before the event.
For Friday’s jobs report, wages, unemployment and revisions may change the message from headline payroll growth. Election results can affect expectations for fiscal policy and risk appetite, but they do not create a reliable one-direction rule for gold.
Short-term and longer-term outlook
Short term: The rebound needs evidence of follow-through. Holding recovered levels after data and forming a higher low would be more constructive than a rally that disappears during the next session.
Over the coming weeks: Watch real yields, dollar direction, investment flows and whether inflation slows beyond energy. A sustained easing in financial conditions could support gold; persistent inflation and restrictive policy could prolong the correction.
