Market coverage: XAGUSD / Silver Date: September 28, 2026 Research cut-off: 11:01 UTC / 4:31 PM IST

Silver opened the week with a sharp decline. Investing.com’s spot XAGUSD page checked during research displayed $61.363 per troy ounce, down 4.58%, with the session low at $60.9575. These are source snapshots gathered before the research cut-off, not a completed Monday close or an executable broker quote.

The central issue for silver is the interaction between monetary policy and industrial demand. Higher interest-rate expectations can weigh on investment demand, while concerns about manufacturing activity can challenge the metal’s industrial appeal.

Our near-term assessment remains cautious while price trades below recently broken reference areas. A recovery would become more convincing if it is supported by easing rate pressure and evidence that buyers can hold reclaimed levels.

What the latest price action shows

Monday’s quote page displayed a day range of approximately $60.96–$64.31. The intraday low is provisional: it can change as trading continues.

The historical series records a September 25 close of $64.3055, compared with $66.2574 on September 18. Calculated consistently from those observations, silver fell approximately 2.95% during the previous week. The September 22–23 highs were around $67.52–$67.56.

Those references show that the weakness extends beyond a single opening fluctuation. However, the size of a decline alone cannot establish that selling is exhausted.

Spot and futures quotes should also remain separate. This article’s price levels refer to spot XAGUSD in US dollars per troy ounce. Futures contracts, broker CFDs and domestic physical-silver prices can differ because of contract terms, timing and local costs.

Interest rates remain a central pressure point

Reuters’ early Monday precious-metals report linked weakness in the sector to rising oil prices, inflation concerns and expectations of further Federal Reserve tightening.

The policy backdrop is concrete: on September 16, the Fed raised its target range by 25 basis points to 3.75%–4.00% and said inflation remained elevated.

Silver does not pay interest. A higher return on competing interest-bearing assets can make holding the metal less attractive, particularly when investors expect policy to stay restrictive.

Inflation itself therefore has no automatic one-way effect on silver. Demand for protection against inflation may increase, but the interest-rate response can work in the opposite direction.

The dollar is another transmission channel. A stronger US currency makes dollar-priced silver more expensive in other currencies, all else equal. A softer dollar can reduce that headwind, but it does not independently guarantee stronger physical demand.

Our interpretation is that the next durable move is likely to depend on the combined response in rates, currencies and manufacturing expectations.

Real yields help explain the investment backdrop

The FRED observations reviewed show the US 10-year inflation-indexed Treasury yield at 2.85% on September 24, up from 2.68% on September 18. The increase between those dates was 17 basis points. These are dated daily observations, not live September 28 readings.

This distinction matters because a higher nominal yield can reflect either stronger real returns or changing inflation expectations. Inflation-adjusted yields provide another way to assess the competition facing a non-interest-bearing asset.

For silver, a price rebound accompanied by lower real yields would have a more supportive monetary backdrop. A rebound while real yields continue rising would need stronger demand from other sources to sustain it.

Neither relationship is a trading rule. Investment flows and industrial developments can outweigh the rate channel over particular periods.

Silver’s supply deficit is context, not a timing signal

The Silver Institute’s April 15 World Silver Survey 2026 release projected a 46.3-million-ounce market deficit for 2026, with mine production expected to remain broadly flat.

The same outlook forecast industrial demand falling 3%, mainly because of weaker photovoltaic demand, while coin and net bar demand was expected to increase. These are annual forecasts published in April, not confirmed full-year results or a new September 28 shortage announcement.

A projected deficit can coexist with a falling spot price. Annual supply-and-demand balances describe a longer period, while daily prices respond to available inventories, investor activity and changing financial conditions.

For that reason, the deficit forecast is relevant background, but it does not identify today’s market bottom or ensure an immediate shortage at every dealer.

Why manufacturing data deserves extra attention

Silver has both investment and industrial uses, including electronics and solar applications. Its price can therefore face conflicting signals from the same economic release.

Consider a weaker-than-expected manufacturing report. It might encourage expectations of a less restrictive Fed, potentially helping precious metals through lower yields. At the same time, it could raise concerns about future industrial demand.

Conversely, stronger factory activity may improve the demand outlook while also reducing the perceived need for policy easing. Silver’s response will depend on which effect dominates.

This makes the composition of a release important. New orders, production, employment and prices can tell different stories. A softer inflation reading alongside resilient activity would have different implications from weak activity combined with persistent cost pressure.

These are analytical scenarios, not claims that a particular outcome has already occurred.

XAGUSD support and recovery zones

The following areas combine observed price references with labelled psychological levels. Zone selection and interpretation are our analysis.

Spot silver zoneBasisWhat it could tell us
$60.95–$61.00Monday’s provisional intraday lowWhether buyers can defend the session’s lower boundary
$60.00Psychological round numberA monitoring reference if selling extends
$62.00Psychological round numberAn initial recovery checkpoint
$62.30–$62.35September 14 and 16 lowsWhether former support becomes resistance
$63.05–$63.35September 24–25 lowsA further test of the rebound’s strength
$64.20–$64.50September 23 low and recent closesWhether price can rebuild a broader trading base

Observed levels are drawn from the spot quote and historical series. Round numbers are not presented as verified historical support or assured targets.

A temporary move through a zone can be reversed quickly. Sustained trading above reclaimed levels, followed by a successful retest, would provide stronger evidence of improving demand.

Likewise, another break of the session low would be more significant if price remains below it rather than immediately recovering. The distinction helps separate a brief liquidity event from continuing weakness.

Upcoming US events for silver traders

October 2September US Employment Situation12:306:00 PM

Times are converted from the official US Eastern schedules using daylight saving time. The listed speech topics do not guarantee fresh monetary-policy guidance.

PCE inflation: Watch the core and headline readings, spending details and revisions. Persistent underlying inflation could maintain pressure through policy expectations. A softer report would be more constructive if the bond and currency markets also respond favourably.

JOLTS and payrolls: Job openings, payroll growth, unemployment and wages can change the perceived balance between inflation and employment risks. A mixed report may produce a sharp initial reaction followed by a reversal.

ISM manufacturing: This release is especially useful for examining silver’s industrial exposure. Read the demand and price components together, rather than relying only on whether the headline beats a forecast.

No actual results for these upcoming releases are assumed here. Schedules can change, and the market response may differ from a simple strong-data or weak-data rule.

Three conditional paths for XAGUSD

Continued downside: Failure to hold the intraday low, combined with persistent rate pressure, would keep the immediate bias defensive. The lower round-number reference would become a point to monitor, not a guaranteed destination.

A stabilisation phase: Holding the lower boundary and recovering the first round-number checkpoint could indicate that selling pressure is easing. That would be an improvement in the immediate picture, without confirming a lasting reversal.

A broader recovery: Reclaiming former support zones and holding them on retests would be stronger evidence that demand is returning. Easing real-yield pressure and a less supportive dollar would improve the backdrop.

The scenarios can change quickly around data releases. No RSI value, moving-average signal or market-wide spot volume figure is assumed in this analysis.
